ABOUT

A photographer and art director by trade, I always had a sneaking suspicion that given the chance, I would fall in love with making ceramics.

I was lucky enough to spend many years as a freelance photographer travelling the world, and some of my favourite mementos to purchase and carefully nestle into my camera bag would be handmade crafts - including ceramics - from the countries that I visited.

I did the odd ceramics class here and there over the years but it wasn't until my return to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2020 that I found myself able to immerse myself in some dedicated courses. Unsurprisingly, I fell in love.

Fast forward to 2023 and here we are with my first collection out in the world.

Also unsurprisingly, it has to do with memory and travel… In the mid 2000's I spent a few years living in the Barbican in London. An icon of Brutalist architecture and an inspiring place to live, I would often run my hands over the rough concrete walls of the buildings on my way home. I found the symmetry and straightforward functionality of the architecture so pleasing (I love a straight line) and, when experimenting with new clays back here in New Zealand, I was thrilled to find a clay that took me back to those rough, textured edifices.

I hope you enjoy these honest, functional pieces. And that they bring you as much joy as they brought me in their making.
